Giuseppe Marotta, CEO of Inter Milan, said his club is “finalizing” the signing for the next season of Uruguayan defender Diego Godín, who finishes contract with Atlético Madrid on June 30.
“The will of the Zhang family, which owns Inter, is to improve the results year after year, and there are aspects that need to be improved in terms of experience and winning culture,” said Marotta, speaking to Italian national radio “Radio Rai. ”
“The players that will arrive must have those values, we are finalizing the signing of Godín, a player who represents those winning values,” he continued. The director of the Milanese box stressed that, for Inter to increase the level of its benefits, it needs players of temperament.
“We need players who can positively condition their team mates, precisely from that point of view,” he explained. Of course, Marotta acknowledged that he will not be able to invest money as he would like because of UEFA’s Financial Fair Play: “There are limits to the financial Fair Play that do not allow us to invest freely”.
A wide track record
If the signing of Godín, 33, is signed, the Uruguayan defender would leave Atlético after nine years in which he won a Spanish League, two European Leagues, one Copa del Rey, one Spanish Super Cup and three European Super Cups, the last of the which last summer against Real Madrid.
Godín also reached two finals of the Champions League, in which he surrendered in both cases against the Madrid side, in Lisbon 2014 and in Milan 2016
