David Beckham and his group of Inter M iam partners already have permission to start demolishing Lockhart Stadium and start construction of the sports complex in order to reach MLS as an expansion franchise.
Last Tuesday a lawsuit was filed against him by a rival business group that sought to prevent the demolition, since according to them, state laws were violated during the offers for the use of space.
However, Jorge Mas, one of Beckham’s partners, told Andy Slater (@AndySlater) that the demolition will begin on May 6. He also stated that the construction of the new stadium in Fort Lauderdale is going ahead and this could be resolved in a period of 5 or 6 weeks.
The partners of Inter Miami received the permit on April 23, but FXE Soccer, the company that tried to stop the demolition with the lawsuit, could still obtain a judicial remedy to prevent the demolition.
The construction of the new Lockhart stadium would take place over a period of four to six months, so if FXE Soccer resorts to the courts, the project could delay the entry of Inter Miami into the first division of the United States in 2020.
